I picked up this York & Sons Professional Model cornet as part of another trade. Based on the serial number, 17537, it looks like it's from 1906.
It includes three extra slides for playing in other keys, plus the following mountpieces:
- Vincent Back 10 1/2
- York and Son #1
- York and Son #2
The cleaning rod and lyre are also included.
Overall, it seems to be in pretty decent shape--the plating on the front side is ok, but has worn away on the back side from sitting in the case for so long. There's various small dents and bumps throughout, as you'd expect on a 100+ year old student instrument.
The valves feel ok, no major sticking or whatnot.
The original case is in good shape, no major tears on the tolex and the leather handle seems to be fairing just fine. The latches work fine and the hinge that holds the case open works just like it should--no getting your fingers caught in this one!
