Inside Bootsy Collins' Studio Tour: The Boot Cave

All roads of funk lead back to Bootsy Collins. We took that road straight to the Boot Cave.

The home studio of the legend himself, Bootsy's Boot Cave is packed wall to wall with the basses, effects, and other gear he's used throughout his illustrious career, including on his brand new record Album of the Year #1 Funkateer.

The Vox bass he employed while still a teenager in James Brown's band? Hanging on the wall, and still being used for records today. The very first effects pedal he ever owned and the thousand more he got since? All here too. His highly modded P-Bass from Parliament-Funkadelic? His custom-built Space Basses? Yes, you get the drift, they're all here too.

Among his own historic instruments are those of the late Bernie Worrell, Bootsy's friend and longtime collaborator from the P-Funk days through experimental funk-rock freakouts with Buckethead and all the way up to Bootsy's 2017 World Wide Funk. Bernie's keys and synth stations are still set up virtually as he left them.

Being inside the Boot Cave was, for a day, like being in Bootsy's own mind. We hope you watch the video in full and let all the glorious funk soak in.
