K Zildjian Istanbul "Intermediate Stamp" 20" Cymbal Now in Stock! We have just received a Turkish-made K Zildjian—a so-called "Old K"—renowned for its deep, "dry" (matured/aged) sound. These cymbals remain immensely popular, particularly among jazz and blues musicians.K Zildjian cymbals were produced at the factory in Istanbul, Turkey, until around 1977–1978. Following the closure of the Turkish facility, the "K Zildjian" trademark was transferred to Canada. Cymbals manufactured in Turkey during this era are now referred to as "Old Ks" and are highly prized as a special category among vintage cymbals. This particular piece features the "Intermediate Stamp," indicating it was likely manufactured between 1959 and 1966.Another key characteristic is the lathing, which is deep and widely spaced—a finish that retains a distinct, artisanal, and rugged charm. It weighs 1,992g, placing it in the "medium-thin" category. The dryness typical of the "Intermediate" period is relatively subtle here; the overall sound is expansive and relaxed. The attack, produced by gentle hand-hammering, is exceptionally soft, with a refined, articulate stick definition. As the sound blooms, it reveals the gritty, "trashy" texture characteristic of an Old K.The sound is highly expressive: it never becomes harsh or brittle, even when played forcefully, yet it captures the most delicate nuances when played with a light touch. When used for legato playing, it offers a deep, satisfying sustain; when crashed, it produces a rich, "matured" wash of overtones. It is an excellent choice not only for jazz and blues but also for soul, vintage rock, and studio recording. Most notably, the condition of this Old K is remarkably good for its age. There are no cracks or chips, and the edges are virtually free of any dents or scratches. Considering this is a vintage cymbal from the 1950s or 60s, it is in excellent condition—a testament to how carefully it has been handled over the years.Beyond its superb sound, the fact that it remains in such remarkable condition after more than half a century is a major part of its appeal. If you are looking for an "Old K" that offers that signature aged character—a soft attack and trashy overtones—while also being in the best possible condition, this is the one for you.It is an ideal choice whether you are looking to add to a collection of vintage K cymbals or seeking an "Old K" that is truly ready for use on stage or in the recording studio.Weight: 1,902gSize: 20"
