Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a hard to find and very desirable vintage 1974 Electro Voice model RE-55 dynamic omni-directional microphone that comes in it's original sage green painted finish. This beautiful longer mic has been tested and has a perfect, smooth signal. No issues. It's low impedance (150 OHMS) with a frequency response between 40 - 20,000 HZ and comes with the E.V clip and metal case shown in which to store. This was a high end studio mic sold by E.V for about 25 years and because it was so expensive to purchase you just don't see to many of them around. It was a very successful design however which is why E.V continued selling them for so long. This mic was very similar to the E.V 655C model. These older mics will still put any modern mic to shame as they were just built so well and utilized the best technology available. Many of the best sounding mics ever made came right out of the U.S during the 1970's and 80's. This will be a very special mic to use for a friend you know or for yourself.Pic # 2 & 3 shows the mics basic characteristics. This RE55 model mic never changed its design for all the years it was built.This was a high end mic that was sold in very small numbers and had the best frequency response of any omni-directional mic that E.V sold at that time. A very impressive mic all around and perfect for any type of studio use.The finish on this piece shows typical lite wear as seen in the pics provided. You can see there are tiny scuff marks, scratches and a few small paint chips on the handle. The E.V label looks very nice and the front metal / mesh screen is perfect as is the new inner foam I installed. This is a very good example of a used 50 year old E.V mic. It's a very conservative 7 on a scale of 1 - 10. This is the only RE-55 I currently have and the last one I had sold 3 years ago. I just rarely get these in so if you need a great working example then I would suggest moving on this one right away. I won't get another for at least a year or two if not more. The mic takes an XLR style cable which is not included but they are very easy to find and cheap to buy. The mic measures 10 inches long and 1 1/4 wide at the screen. Very light and versatile. This resembles the 635A model in many ways but the performance characteristics are far better. I cleaned the XLR pins on this mic so once a cable is attached you'll get a perfect signal.There is an E.V model mic clip that holds this mic firmly and gives a wide degree of tilt up and down. The clip will screw onto any desk or floor stand as well. The clip look very nice as well with zero issues. You'll have to use an Allen wrench to disconnect the clip from the mic as there are two screws that hold the clip in place. Just takes a few seconds to do but you'll have piece of mind knowing the mic won't fall out of the clip. The metal mic case is included and in very nice condition. You can see the mustard yellow paint is almost perfect with a minimum of wear. No dents, fractures or corrosion and the locking mechanism works perfectly. There is a practical carrying handle and there are two new foam pads that were applied and do a great job of keeping the mic secure and safe inside. Plenty of room for a cable as well if you prefer.Properly stored and used this should last 100 years. A real workhorse and one of E.V's all time classic mics. If you demand a studio quality mic in which to record...this is the one.
