About this listing
Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a very high quality and desirable Electro Voice RE-18 dynamic "super cardioid" microphone made in the 1980's and continued into the late 1990's I believe. Made in Buchanan, Michigan and considered to be a very high quality studio mic. It comes with the stock 310 clip as well as the E.V metal case. This RE-18 will do most any musician or broadcaster justice with it's warm, smooth sound. Pic # 2 is from an older E.V Catalog I have showing the mics basic characteristics. Again, the RE-18 was a higher end studio E.V model that was quite expensive when it was originally sold. It could be used for a variety of situations and was a very rugged design. Ideal for singing and broadcasting but could be used for dispatch purposes as well though it was a little too nice for such basic work. This microphone has been thoroughly cleaned and tested. The signal strength is 100% and sounds excellent...set at 150 OHMS which is low impedance but I think this has much more bass than an E.V 635A set at the same OHM. Not as heavy on the bass as a Shure SM-58 model mic however. These harder to come by models are probably one of the most underrated dynamic microphones of that period and they seem to hold their value very well. I've never had one of these returned and my clients love them. The RE-18 has an all metal body with a stock painted finish. It has the original sage green paint scheme as well with typical lite wear. This example has some subtle scuff marks and tiny paint loss on the handle but it's free of any fractures or dents and the XLR pins were cleaned for a perfect connection once the cable is attached. The E.V label is completely legible and looks great. The chrome mesh screen is very nice too with no discoloration, odors or deformation. The mic has a new front inner foam screen (pop filter) with side inner pop filter which really helps with sound characteristics and cuts down on unwanted feedback from wind and breathing. These older pop filters usually need to be replaced as they degrade with age. Even if you don't buy from me just know that all the RE18's you buy out there will need to have the inner pop filter replaced. The mic takes a standard XLR cable which is not included. The XLR pins on this mic were cleaned ensuring a perfect signal once a cable is attached. The RE-18 does come with the original E.V 310 model mic clip that is in excellent condition and works great for this microphone giving the user a wide degree of tilt up and down as needed. Grips the mic well allowing you to suspend the mic upside down if needed. The mic clip will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have. The vintage metal E.V metal mic case is also included and in very good overall condition. It has a good working locking mechanism and comes with two new interior foam pads to keep the mic safe and snug. Just lite physical wear on the exterior painted finish. The case is free of any dents or corrosion. The case is appx 9 inches long X 4 inches deep X 2 1/2 inches tall. Overall this RE-18 is physically a very conservative 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10. The real beauty is the sound it produces. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. As with all my vintage microphones for sale...
