Optimized for the UM-1A and UPA-1A loudspeakers and pre-aligned at the factory, the M-1A contains an electronic processor with frequency response and phase response alignment circuitry, as well as Meyer Sound's exclusive SpeakerSense™ driver protection circuit, incorporating both peak and RMS signal limiting. A single-channel, line-level device, the M-1A is the last component in the signal chain before the amplifier. The SpeakerSense driver protection circuit safeguards the UM-1A loudspeaker components from damage due to overheating under high-power conditions. This unique circuit continuously monitors the power applied to the UM-1A drivers and individually limits the high- and low-frequency processor outputs when the drivers' safe operating limits are exceeded. Until the overload begins, the SpeakerSense circuit has no effect on the signal. A switch-selectable backup function is also provided, which expands the system's safety margin and is intended for use when prolonged periods of overload are anticipated. The backup switch and other configuration controls are located behind a cover plate on the front panel of the M-1A, providing a way to secure the system installer's presets.
