JHS Coyote Fuzz Pedal

A Howling Homage to a Fuzz Circuit Legend

JHS founder and effect pedal sleuth Josh Scott has a knack for delivering top-notch interpretations of once-lost pedal schematics to the masses. Inspired by a highly lauded fuzz box from boutique pedal designer Glenn Wyllie, the Coyote is a reimagined late '60s-style fuzz circuit that has taken on a life of its own. Two knobs, Volume and Mode, are all you need to sculpt your own personalized fuzz tone. Featuring three fully sweepable zones — Swell, Fuzz, and Octave — gated swell with reverse-tape character, full-blown fuzz, and aggressive octave-up snarl are all at your fingertips. Fuzz fanatics were over the moon to explore the slow, breathing attack of the Swell mode that, at its lowest setting, creates a dynamic, responsive, and gradual bloom unlike any other fuzz pedal we've auditioned. The Coyote bears a remarkable sonic resemblance to the old Wyllie-built units and is ideal for those troubadours seeking a fuzz tone you can't find anywhere else.

From New Jersey to North Carolina, guitar repair tech, luthier, and pedal designer Glenn Wyllie had been building guitar effects since the late ‘60s. Originally inspired by the sounds of the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix, Wyllie’s unique take on transistor-based pedal circuitry took him on a path to create a wide range of fuzz boxes under the name G.S. Wyllie Pedals. Such creations have made their mark in the annals of popular music and can be heard on recordings by a wide variety of artists, including Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Alison Krauss, Sting, and many more. Though Wyllie's pedals have yet to take their rightful place among the industry's more recognizable effects, they have enjoyed a more mythic-like status among pedal collectors and aficionados. The JHS Coyote serves as a living testament to Glenn Wyllie’s crowning achievement: a complete replication of his arguably most iconic circuitry and a dutiful homage to a masterful, albeit elusive, trailblazer.
