Fostex 3180 Spring reverb

Overview

This is the Fostex 3180, a highly sought-after vintage stereo spring reverb unit from the 1980s. Fostex is a legendary brand in home and project studio recording, and the 3180 is a perfect example of their classic analog gear.

Unlike digital emulations, this unit uses a genuine mechanical spring reverb system to create its iconic sound—warm, "splashy," and full of character. It is famous for adding a unique analog dimension to vocals, guitars, and especially drum machines, making it a classic tool for dub production and electronic music.

A key feature of the 3180 is its built-in Bucket Brigade (BBD) pre-delay circuit, which adds a slight delay before the reverb, creating a much more natural and realistic sense of space than typical spring reverbs. It functions as a true stereo or dual-mono unit and features flexible connectivity with both 1/4" phone jacks on the front and RCA jacks on the rear panel.
