Eddie Lang changed history with a guitar like this one! 1928 L5's are acknowledged as the finest of their type, and this one is no exception.
This is likely the best guitar I have ever owned, and it's time some else can appreciate it.
When I received this L5, it had a really bad old refinish on it. I took to my luthier, who has done amazing refins for me in the past. He faithfully replicated a 1928 Cremona finish, in lacquer, as the originals were done.
At that time, he refretted the guitar with period correct frets, and did a complete setup.
The result was a vintage guitar that plays out of this world. Seriously.
I also sourced an EXF condition original HSC for it, with plush red lining.
On top of all this cool mojo, this guitar was owned by Bob Gibbons, a very famous jazz player in the day. He did all the Mel Torme records and hung with the likes of Scotty Moore, Bob Bain, Barney Kessel, Howard Roberts, etc. Google him to really appreciate who this was. His vanity truss rod cover is still on the guitar.
I have priced this L5 to reflect the refinish, but, honestly, it is so good, I feel it is only a small issue.
Highly flamed maple back, neck and rims, this guitar is a thing of beauty. No cracks and no major repairs beyond refretting.
