Great playing Yamaha acoustic guitar. The original tuning machines have been replaced.
Below is information about this vintage and model:
The Yamaha FG-170 (made in the 1970s) is a compact, 00-size (concert/folk) flattop acoustic guitar that punches well above its price class.
What Makes the Yamaha FG-170 a Good Guitar:
- Martin-Like Body Dimensions: It closely mirrors the size and proportions of a Martin 000 (Triple-O) or 00 size, featuring a 15-inch lower bout, a depth of just over 4 inches, and a comfortable 24.5-inch scale length.
- Sweet, Resonant Tone: Unlike booming dreadnoughts, the FG-170 delivers a warm, midsy, and creamy voice with clear definition on the highs. It excels at fingerpicking, flatpicking, and intimate chord work.
- Lightweight Plywood Construction: It features a spruce top and mahogany back and sides (plywood). Because it is all-ply, it is remarkably durable and far less sensitive to dramatic humidity swings and cracking than solid-wood vintage instruments.
- Quality Build Consistency: Even though Taiwan-built models lack the coveted "Red Label" status of early Japanese-made Yamaha FG guitars, Yamaha maintained very strict, high manufacturing and material standards in their Taiwan factories.
