The *Line 6 POD HD500* is a multi-effects floor processor + amp modeler from around 2010. Guitar players used it as an “all-in-one rig” before modelers like Helix/Kemper took over.### *What it is*Basically a floorboard that replaces your pedalboard + amp for live or recording. You plug guitar in, XLR/¼" out to PA, amp, or interface.### *Key features**1. HD Amp Modeling* 16 amp models based on Line 6’s “HD” engine. Think Marshall Plexi, Fender Deluxe, Vox AC30, Mesa Dual Rec, Soldano SLO, etc. They were a big step up from the older POD X3 tones — more dynamic, less fizzy.*2. M13 Effects* Has all the effects from the Line 6 M13 stompbox modeler. 100+ effects: delays, reverbs, mods, drives, pitch, filters. You can run up to 8 effects at once in any order.*3. Dual signal chains* This was the big selling point. Run two amps/effects chains in parallel or series. Example: Vox AC30 clean panned left + Marshall crunch panned right. Or bass + guitar rig at same time.*4. Floor controller layout* - 12 footswitches: 8 for effects/presets, 4 for bank/tap/tuner/looper- Big expression pedal for wah/volume/morphing- Chromatic tuner + 48-sec looper built in*5. I/O* Guitar in, aux in, XLR outs, ¼" outs, FX loop, Variax input, MIDI, USB for recording/editing. USB audio is 24-bit, so it doubled as an interface.### *Pros back in the day*- *Flexible*: One board could cover country clean to metal with no amp- *Dual amps*: Sounded huge for recording- *Cheap vs real rig*: $499 new, vs $2k+ for tube amp + pedals- *Edit on PC*: “POD HD500 Edit” software made deep tweaking easy### *Cons / why people moved on*- *“Line 6 sound”*: HD models were better than X3, but still had a slight digital fizz on high gain- *DSP limits*: Dual amps + 8 effects could max out the processor = greyed-out options- *No IR loading*: Stuck with Line 6 cabs. Helix/Kemper later fixed this- *Big/heavy*: 13 lbs, 21" wide
