The results range from subtle doubling, detuned chorusing and musical harmonies to otherworldly pitch sweeps, cascading repeats and gloriously unpredictable sonic adventures.Particularly interesting is the INV (Invert) mode, which produces unusual reverse-like effects reminiscent of backwards tape playback. Combine this with the feedback control and things can become delightfully strange, making the RPS-10 a superb creative tool for guitarists, keyboard players, electronic musicians and studio experimenters. The front panel provides five wonderfully colourful rotary controls for selecting the effect mode, adjusting pitch and fine-tuning, setting feedback and balancing the original and processed signals. Around the back you'll find jack and RCA audio connections, keyboard control, tuner output, hold and remote effect switching, plus selectable input levels. This Japanese-made example is presented in very attractive vintage condition, with its original coloured knobs, switches and distinctive turquoise Boss graphics all present. The casing and control panel show relatively light cosmetic wear, including a few small marks and scuffs consistent with age.The original printed signal-flow diagram on the top panel is a particularly charming touch, providing a fascinating glimpse into the digital technology of the era.The RPS-10 operates from a suitable 9V DC Boss PSA-type power supply. No power supply or additional accessories are included.A cracking little slice of 1980s digital history, and just the ticket for anyone seeking the character, quirks and creative possibilities of early digital effects without surrendering half the studio to a rack cabinet.A thoroughly enjoyable piece of Boss ingenuity!
