BUILD & DESIGN

The EL3781 features a distinctive square-shaped plastic housing- lightweight construction with structural rigidity. Its integrated metal stand can be folded flat against the body or extended to support the microphone on flat surfaces. Additionally, a standard microphone thread allows direct mounting on modern boom stands.

  • Capsule
The microphone uses a dynamic moving-coil capsule with a cardioid pickup pattern. The directional behavior is slightly broad, allowing for natural and forgiving placement while still maintaining useful isolation from surrounding sound sources.
  • Circuit
As a passive dynamic design, the EL3781 operates without active electronics. This ensures long-term reliability, stable impedance behavior, and resistance to environmental variation.

SOUND CHARACTERISTICS

The Philips EL3781 offers a balanced and musically satisfying tonal character, with particularly impressive low-frequency reach for its compact capsule size. While it does not extend into deep sub-bass territory, the bass range remains full, present, and supportive. The midrange is clear and well-defined, making it especially suitable for speech and voice applications.

The high frequencies are smooth and sufficiently extended, providing clarity without harshness. This makes the microphone well suited for spoken word, broadcast-style recording, desktop use, and creative studio applications. It also performs well on guitar amplifiers and midrange-focused instruments, where its tonal balance helps sources sit naturally in the mix.

FREQUENCY RESPONSE

Estimated Frequency Response:
70 Hz – 13,000 Hz

  • Full and supportive low-frequency response above 80 Hz
  • Natural presence region around 3–5 kHz - not very detailed
  • Smooth high-frequency roll-off above 10–12 kHz
