About this listing
1980 GIBSON FLYING V2 The Flying V2 was only produced from mid-1979 to mid-1981. It was Gibson’s second most expensive solidbody; the Les Paul Artist active was initially $100 more expensive, but by 1980 the two were the same price: $1299. This is unquestionably a “high-end” instrument: gold hardware, ebony fingerboard and mother-of-pearl inlaid logo. Figures are not available for the 1980s, but in 1979, only 157 V2s were shipped. Admittedly, these were only half a year’s sales, but it’s fair to say that V2 production remained as short-lived as it was confidential. This example is in very good condition and entirely original, with the exception of a recent case. The boomerang pickups and ebony fingerboard give it a brighter, almost “fenderian” sound.
