Here is a really beautiful older Murphy Aged 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue in a stunning Cherry Sunburst finish.
Built as part of Gibson Custom Shop's celebrated 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul series in 2008, this is one of the earlier hand-aged Murphy guitars from the era when Tom Murphy personally performed the aging work himself.
This particular example features a fantastic vintage-looking top with strong flame, beautiful grain patterns, and plenty of the flecks and mineral streaking that collectors love to see. It has a very authentic appearance that captures the character of a well-preserved original Burst. Combined with the Murphy aging, it creates a remarkably convincing vintage aesthetic.
The guitar is fitted with a beautiful dark rosewood fingerboard that appears to be Madagascar Rosewood, another highly desirable feature from this era of Gibson Custom Shop production.
The aging on these early Murphy guitars has become highly collectible in its own right. These guitars almost always exhibit wear patterns in the same specific locations, and while some of the dings and wear marks appear substantial, we believe them to be entirely factory-applied as they match the known Murphy aging patterns from this era. Supporting that conclusion is the fact that this guitar shows virtually no fret wear whatsoever, suggesting it has seen very little actual playing time.
Overall, this is an outstanding example with exceptional vintage appeal, desirable specifications, and all the charm that made the early Murphy-aged guitars so sought after.
It comes complete with the original hardshell case, which is also in fantastic condition, along with all of the original paperwork including the Certificate of Authenticity and case candy as shown.
