About this listing
The combination of 40 watts through two 12-inch speakers in a closed-back cabinet — pine throughout — makes the Pre-CBS Fender Pro Reverb one of the most capable American combo amplifiers of its era. The two original Schumacher transformers and all-original chassis, potentiometers, and knobs confirm this amp is mechanically intact where it counts most. The filter caps have been replaced, which is standard maintenance on any amp of this age and keeps the power supply operating safely. Overall condition is very good-to-excellent, with the cabinet and grille rating very good. The Pro Reverb sits between the Super Reverb and the Twin in Fender's 1965 blackface lineup — two 12s instead of four 10s or two 12s at higher headroom — and it occupies a sweet spot that many players prefer. Pre-CBS designation means this amp was built before CBS's January 1965 acquisition closed, or in the very early transitional period; the internal date codes confirm 1965 manufacture. All four Schumacher transformers — power, choke, output, and reverb — carry original date codes and are confirmed original, which matters significantly to collectors and to the long-term serviceability of the amp. The original reverb tank is intact, and the vibrato circuit is functional with a footswitch included. The speakers are Jensen 12-inch drivers with manufacturer code 465 and date code 714, decoding to the 14th week of 1977 — these are not the original speakers, but they are period-correct Jensens in excellent condition with the original cones intact (cone code P-3869-7). The footswitch is not original and dates to the 1970s; condition is very good. Casters have been added to the bottom of the cabinet with screws visible on the underside — this is the only modification to the cabinet. Shipments require signature on delivery, no exceptions. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely. If there is damage, retain all packing materials intact, photograph them immediately, and send the photos to .Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. Vintage amplifiers (20 years or older) are sold as-is — all amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
