It is so much more than just 16 mic pres though. It is a compact, fully featured mixing console with master section.Here is a way-too-long list of features. This is 16 of Manley's best sounding Mic Preamps.2: High impedance (82kOhm) line inputs with same routing function as Mic preamps.3. Switchable insert send/return. With microphones and inserts connected, a front panel switch enables/ bypasses inserts. This allows the unit to do double duty in the studio as 16 mic preamps during tracking, and a 16 channel transformer/ tube summing mixer during mixdown!4: 16 channel Audiophile-grade Manley tube/ transformer summing mixer for DAW. 5: Master section that allows selectable audio monitoring of stereo mix output, mono output, stereo return or auxiliary input . Two pairs of monitors can be selected, each with its own volume/ dim/mute switches. 6: Additional features in includes relay-controlled solos and mutes, large stereo VU meters for monitoring mix/ solo level and for calibration, It was sent back to Manley one time to have a factory authorized circuit upgrade which included removal of 2 capacitors from each channel, reducing noise and increasing the S:N/r. This is the Microphone and Line version of their famous 16X2 Mic/Line mixer. Most of those found on reverb.com and elsewhere on the used market features 8 mic preamps and 8 line-only amps, or even just 16 line inputs. While this includes 16 mic preamps, it also offers 16 line inputs as well. Each channel also features switchable send/ return inserts on the front panel. I used the inputs exclusively for mic signals and had 16 outputs from Pro Tools feeding the Insert returns. By flipping in the insert switches (with LED for confirmation) on each channel during mixdown, the 16 mic preamps become line inputs and the whole thing became an amazing tube/ transformer summing amp.The mic preamps also feature phantom power, phase reverse on each channel, pan pots, and direct outs. Bourns potentiometers and Grayhill switches are the best of the best, and add to the incredible headroom, wide bandwidth, and noiselessness of this incredible, audiophile-grade mixer that measures +/- 1 dB from 5Hz to 100KHz! Distortion is almost unmeasurable at .05%, Headroom is a whopping +33dB!. Manley’s own transformers and tube summing amp pretty much guarantees that if your recordings don’t sound incredible when you record/ sum through this, the problem lies elsewhere.These are among the most wide open detailed mic preamps you will ever hear, and as the analog half of a modern DAW studio there is nothing this versatile which sounds as good and is as compact. Summing your DAW outputs through the incredible tube/ transformer mixbus will give all your mixes a weight, openness and depth unlike anything else.For remote recording you won't find a better sounding compact.
