This early Made in Japan black label example dates from approximately 1983/1984 and comes from the highly desirable first-generation DS-1 era, long before production moved to Taiwan. Built during the golden age of Japanese Boss manufacturing, these early units are prized for their warmer response, smoother top end and unmistakably musical character.
Compared to later versions, early Japanese DS-1 pedals are known for sounding fuller, less harsh and more dynamic, especially when paired with a cranked valve amp.
