Built to order! Rene LaCote (1785-1855), like most builders, made guitars in differing styles depending on demand. I build two models with different combinations of LaCote features. This one has a slotted headstock that is fitted separately to the neck in the old style, and features Golden Age bronze plate tuners.  It has the old style cone shaped heel capped with holley.  Bolivian Pao Ferro rosewood is used for the sides and back;  the ebony fingerboard is fit with antique narrow brass frets and is flush with the soundboard rather than laid on top of it.  The frets on the body are inlaid into ebony blocks set in the spruce top;  the ebony bridge has a bone saddle and is trimmed with inlaid pearl dots at the tails. It has a fine grained Sitka spruce soundboard.  The bindings are holly, known as the whitest of woods. Features can be combined differently on custom orders. It has a carbon graphite reinforced bolt-on mahogany neck and a multi line inlaid wood rosette. My early guitars are finished in alcohol based spirit varnish that has a hand rubbed patina and the warm color and durability of varnish. It has traditional straight ladder bracing closely following the original pattern. The tone of the LaCote Model is typically clear and defined with excellent projection.   Handmade wooden coffin case available for $400. with guitar. Prices start at $3800. Built to order.
