We’re big fans of Godin’s Cognac Burst finish. It shows off the Cherry grain beautifully and keeps the look classy, clean, and understated.
The laminated Cherry body puts out plenty of volume, with full bass, bright snap, and strong sustain. The neck pickup sounds warm and round without getting muddy, and because the body is fully hollow—not semi-hollow—you can coax some feedback depending on how close you are to the amp. It’s obviously not a shred guitar, but the neck feels great for chords and plays comfortably up the neck too. The factory .012s may feel a little stiff for some electric players, but a set of .010s or .011s will loosen things up while still giving you plenty of volume. If jazz is your thing, flatwound 11s or 12s are right at home here.
Bottom line: this is a bold, lively guitar with a lot more range than its conservative looks suggest. It’s right at home with jazz and mellow styles, but the P-90 gives it enough punch and edge to shine in roots rock and rockabilly too.
