About this listing
Very Good condition, 7,5/10, Made in USA, including black era-correct hardcase (black tolex with purple interior) but probably not a Gibson hardcase, very clean instrument that has been treated in the best way over the years (lots of checking but not much wear).
Rare 2 pickup version (most ES-300´s had one pickup in the neck position) and the only other non-cutaway model with 2 pickups from Gibson would be the Gibson ES-125TD, it does have a couple of issues, mainly an almost invisible side repair on the bass side all the way from the tail block to the neck which has been professionally addressed and received a thin clear coat over (a light overspray only on the bass side), also the holding part that screws to the body of the tailpiece has been replaced with a modern chrome part, but the rest of the tailpiece seems to be the original one, it also has an added strap button on the back by the neck heel, but otherwise this guitar is very complete and in it´s original factory condition and it also shows many typical design traits from this time which include the tapered headstock (mostly found pre 1950 but here is an exception to that rule), tall knobs with numbers which came late 1950 and were used until 1952/1953, typical no-line single ring tulip tuners just like on the earliest Les Pauls from 1952 with hex bushings instead of the later round bushings (yes, mumbo jumbo to most but we love this stuff), very nicely flamed body, the serial is A9778 (the last serial in 1951 was A9420 and the last in 1952 was 12460 so this must be very early 1952), and the internal FON is 8863 26 (1951 has FON 6000s to 9000s), more info:
The 17″ body ES-300 with P-90 neck pickup was introduced in 1946 but the first year for 2 pickups was 1948 when it got 2 single coil pickups, 2 volume controls on the lower body, and the tone control was moved to upper treble bout
