Part Firebird, part Fender, and a whole lotta LP Special. The 24.75” scale length and wraptail make the strings feel like butter under the hands.The Lollar P-90s sound warm and sweet in the neck and middle positions. Note articulation is excellent, and you hear a rich sum of the parts when playing multiple strings together. There’s a nice cluck to give definition, and the perfect depth of mahogany to fill out the note after the initial attack.Turning to the bridge pickup, this is where things get raunchy. It will dirty up even a clean amp, and the emphasis shifts from a well-heeled low end to a scrappy, barking midrange. It can be gritty or it can be downright rude. Tone it up or tone it down as needed, but you’ve always got that wonderful P-90 snarl doing its thing.How Does It PlayThe string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and a tad under on the high E. The neck doesn’t exactly put up a fight, but it does give you something good to hold on to. Think the latest iteration of Gibson’s ’59 reissue profile.
