The D-28 is the most famous model among Martin guitars. Born in 1934 as a dreadnought model with the same 14-fret joint as today's models, it remains a beloved world standard. This particular instrument has undergone numerous specification changes, with further modifications in 2025, but this 2022 used model possesses a unique personality and charm. It features a spruce top, East Indian rosewood sides and back, ebony fingerboard and bridge, Grover open-back tuners, pearl fingerboard dots, a tortoiseshell pickguard, and non-scalloped, forward-shifted X-bracing. From 2017 onwards, it features geared tuners and a tortoiseshell pickguard, giving it an appearance reminiscent of older Martins. It blends pre-war and modern specifications, resulting in a hybrid design that incorporates modern approaches such as playability and versatility to accommodate various styles.
