About This Model
The Audio-Technica AT4021 is a small-diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone built around a fixed-charge back plate, permanently polarized capsule. Its low-mass diaphragm delivers accurate transient response across a full 20–20,000 Hz frequency range, with a self-noise floor of just 14 dB(A) and a dynamic range of 132 dB — making it well suited to acoustic instruments, overheads, and location recording. Maximum SPL handling reaches 146 dB, extendable to 156 dB via the switchable 10 dB pad, while an 80 Hz high-pass filter (18 dB/octave) helps manage low-frequency rumble. The mic outputs via an integral 3-pin XLR connector and requires 48V phantom power. At 144 mm long and 21 mm in diameter, it is compact and unobtrusive in a wide range of recording environments.
