This instrument is a highly unusual Peavey Wolfgang, strongly indicating that it originates from an early experimental or pre-production phase, likely built prior to the establishment of final production specifications.

While Peavey has not officially certified this guitar as a prototype, multiple documented deviations from standard production models clearly distinguish it from regular market examples.

Key Characteristics & Deviations

Serial Number

Standard USA-made Peavey Wolfgang guitars typically feature serial numbers beginning with “9100–”.

This instrument, however, carries a serial number beginning with “0100–”.

Although certain Korean-made Wolfgang Special models also begin with “01”, those instruments use printed serial numbers and printed EVH signatures.

In contrast, this guitar features a stamped (engraved) serial number and a burned-in EVH signature, consistent with early USA manufacturing methods.

Furthermore, Peavey Japan has officially confirmed this instrument as USA-made.

Pickups

Standard production Wolfgang pickups are wax-potted, often leaving visible wax residue on the baseplates, and do not carry identification stickers on the rear.

The pickups installed in this guitar:

・Are not wax-potted (no wax residue present on the baseplates)

・Feature an “EVH” identification sticker on the back

These characteristics are not found on regular production units and are consistent with components used before final production standards were fixed.

Tuning Machines

Regular Black and White Wolfgang models are typically fitted with solid, opaque white tuner buttons.

This instrument is equipped with translucent pearl-style tuner buttons, another clear deviation from standard specifications.

Finish

Although the exact finish type cannot be definitively identified, it is significantly thinner than standard production finishes.

As a result, there is visible finish lifting and peeling across the body.

This is not impact damage, but rather natural aging of an exceptionally thin original finish, a characteristic often associated with early or experimental builds.

These deviations are not random modifications, but rather consistent and methodical differences that strongly suggest an instrument produced prior to final production specification lock-in.

Neck & Playability

The neck features subtle blister-figure maple rather than heavy birdseye, contributing to excellent long-term stability.

Even through seasonal changes, the neck remains straight and reliable.

Having owned and played numerous Peavey Wolfgang guitars, this instrument stands out as exceptionally unique.

It delivers the classic EVH tonal foundation:

・Dry, aggressive, percussive distortion

・Tight, articulate response

While also offering:

・An unusually light and airy resonance

・Crisp, immediate attack

Among all Wolfgangs, EVH models, and guitars I have owned, this instrument represents one of the most exceptional examples I have encountered.

Condition: Very Good

This guitar is in very good overall condition, especially considering its apparent pre-production nature and extremely thin finish.

There is visible finish lifting and peeling across the body due to finish aging. Additionally, there is a single linear cosmetic mark where external contact has resulted in localized finish loss.

The neck is straight and stable, the frets show minimal wear, and the guitar plays and functions perfectly.

All hardware and electronics are original to the best of my knowledge, and no structural issues are present.
