I've owned this dual-pattern, large diaphragm condenser Telefunken U47 for 22 years and it's always been my first go-to mic, better in all respects than my vintage U67 and U87 Telefunken/Neumann tube mics, my AKG C12, or any other. In my humble opinion it's the absolute best vocal mic in the world and it will accurately record most instruments and amps as well. The only reason for selling is that I'm not in the studio biz anymore, having moved from Nashville. It has not been used in the studio since 2019, and was successfully tested recently. It needs to go to someone who appreciates perfection over price.Built in 1950 as serial #375. The original VF-14 tube (also serial #375) was replaced with a Telefunken VF-14k tube in 2017, hand-picked and installed by Telefunken USA at a cost of over $1600, which was very close to the prices being asked for used original VF-14s that year. To me, the fresh VF-14k sounds better than the original VF-14 did before it started failing in 2017. The VF-14k has a similar frequency response that an original VF-14 would have during the 1950s and, of course, is much superior to many tired originals still being used today in studios.Even in the 1950-60s not all the original VF-14s produced by Telefunken were equal and some ended up in broadcast mics. Neumann was getting its tubes from Telefunken but Telefunken often specified the use of the best ones for its own branded mics. Some of the now-tired VF-14 tubes are being foisted on buyers today for ridiculous prices. The original VF-14 tube is included and might be salvageable. Purchase includes the original velvet-lined storage box, original unmarred body with excellent original chrome grill, original power supply updated by Nashville guru Gene Lawson, and the original power supply cables.
