I'm offering a well-maintained Gretsch 6122 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman in Walnut. She has the George Harrison Ed Sullivan Show ('65) specs: Walnut, same year of manufacture, double mute. No binding rot at all - some Gretsch guitars were made with a more durable material. Unfortunately, a former pad or the tape used to secure it caused a reaction with the finish on the back. However, when the newer replacement pad is installed, the damaged finish is fully covered.Since the previous owner always kept the guitar in excellent condition, he had replaced most of the gold parts (bridge, pickup covers and the master volume knob) with newer original parts including the tuners, which he swapped out for vintage Grover Imperials - the coolest tuning machines ever. The electronics and pickups (4.2 and 4.1 kOhm) themselves are original, as are the well-preserved original frets. The double mute works flawlessly thanks to new foam. The original case is also included. The Country Gent delivers a beautiful twang, smooth Bigsby action, and cuts through well even when distorted. Plus, the neck is full and rounded - Les Paul players will feel right at home here. The original frets are flat, as is typical for all Gretsch guitars from that era, but in my opinion, they’re still very playable. I’ve given this beauty a thorough refurbishment, including a fretboard clean job and a polish of the frets.
