About this listing
Very cool! The Norlin era was a particularly interesting time in Gibson's production history, with the quickly expanding market, Gibson began to pivot away from their time honoured traditions and explore manufacture process that could increase output, save on costs, contend with its competitors and appeal to as wide an audience as possible. This gave the space for innovative models such as the Marauder, L6-S, Sonex and of course, the lesser known S-1 to take the stage! Designed by Bill Lawrence and debuted in 1975, the S-1 was loaded with three single coil blade pickups in it's single cut body. Offering the tonal versatility of a Strat whilst still cutting the famed silhouette of a Les Paul. It's four position rotary dial offers varied pickup combinations: F - Neck positionCB - Middle and Bridge positionFCB - Neck, Middle and BridgeFBX - Neck and Bridge out of phaseand what looks to be a pickup selector on the lower horn is actually a two way 'Lead Switch' - in the middle position, you have access to the multiple pickup selections on the rotary dial and in the down position, Bridge pickup only! Finished in a 'Natural Mahogany for the body and a bolt-on Maple neck with a 'V' headstock, it's a bit of a space oddity and altogether rare bird. We don't see these show up very often at all! It's in good condition, someone has added a leather cover to the back to the back of the guitar at some point but rest assured it comes with our two year set up and ervicing warranty included in the price and it's original chainsaw hard case.
