The select alder body wears a black nitrocellulose lacquer finish, paired with a single-ply black pickguard for that instantly familiar Black Strat appearance. Aged white pickup covers and parchment control knobs provide a soft contrast, while the maple fingerboard gives the instrument its characteristic visual warmth. The NOS designation refers to Fender’s original finish treatment without factory-applied wear, making this an especially appealing version for anyone who loves the design’s clean, understated presentation.
Much of this model’s personality comes from its maple neck, shaped to duplicate the thin-shouldered “C” profile of Gilmour’s 1983 U.S. Vintage ’57 Stratocaster neck. Measuring .790" to .870" through its taper, the carve offers a slender feel with a gentle increase in substance as you move up the fingerboard. A traditional 7.25" radius and 21 vintage-style frets preserve the familiar feel of an older Strat, complemented by a 25.5" scale length and a 1.675" synthetic bone nut. Nitrocellulose lacquer, black dot position markers with narrow spacing, and a serialized four-bolt neck plate complete the appointments.
The three single-coil pickups give this guitar a particularly purposeful range of voices. The Custom Shop Fat ’50s neck pickup supplies the rounded, bell-like character that makes a Strat so rewarding for melodic playing, while the custom-wound middle pickup provides another shade of clear, articulate single-coil response. At the bridge, the Seymour Duncan SSL-5 adds greater output and a fuller voice, giving lead passages weight and presence while retaining recognizable Strat character. The five-way selector provides the three individual pickups and the familiar bridge-and-middle and middle-and-neck combinations, with master volume and separate neck and middle tone controls keeping adjustments straightforward. It is an inviting setup for spacious clean passages, textured rhythm work, and expressive leads through a driven amplifier.
Gilmour’s individual preferences extend to the American Vintage synchronized tremolo, which features a custom beveled block and shortened arm. That compact arm brings subtle pitch shading close to the picking hand, making the tremolo an integral part of phrasing. Vintage-style tuning machines and the deliberately uncovered rear tremolo cavity carry the specification through to its smallest practical details.
