At the time, the “Custom Art & Historic” line was the Gibson Custom Shop series with historically accurate reissues.

In 2003, this series included a '57 Les Paul Junior Reissue (usually single-cut).

Features of this LP Jr: solid mahogany body and neck, wraparound bridge, one dog-ear P-90 at the bridge, one volume & one tone, and an (Indian) rosewood fingerboard.

The sound character of the Gibson Les Paul Jr.;

Direct and raw – due to its simple construction (solid mahogany, wraparound bridge, one P-90), the guitar responds very quickly and unfiltered to your touch.

Open midrange – the P-90 delivers a pronounced midrange that cuts through a band mix easily without becoming too shrill.

Growling low end – mahogany provides warmth and body, but because there is only one pickup and no maple top, the bass is tighter and less “boomy” than on a Standard.

Grainy high end – you get an edge and a slightly grainy character, especially when you start to overdrive the amplifier.

Compared to a Les Paul Standard: less thick low end, but more directness and bite....

Ideal for rock, punk, blues, and garage: raw, unpolished, and energetic. But also surprisingly good for dynamic roots and singer-songwriter situations, because you can switch from clean to crunch very musically with the volume knob.
