Named after Gibson’s founder Orville Gibson, Orville gjuitars and basses were built for Gibson by Japanese factories like Terada and Fujigen to offer high-quality, faithful alternatives to classic 1960s American-built Gibson models. There were mainly 2 distinct series, the premier series G had Gibson pickups and hardware, the K was fully Japanese made, with premium, albeit Japanese made pickups. This 1990 Terada made bass is a stunning G model, it is simply fantastic and is definitely on par, if not even better, than the ones Gibson made around the same time. It’s super comfy to play. Most of the times, Thunderbirds are not the most nimble of instruments but this one feels well balanced and easy to manoeuvre.
It is in excellent condition save a previously sub par repaired neckbrake, now amended by our excellent and diligent luthier so you wouldn’t even have known it had one. The body has all that natural beautiful honest wear and tear that comes from playing an instrument you like for 27 years. Really good bass this one.
