About this listing
1964 Epiphone Sheraton Sunburst w Original Case Wide Nut Vintage Kalamazoo Gibson ES-355 type!
Here is a beautiful 1964 Epiphone Sheraton in Sunburst, built in the Kalamazoo Gibson factory era, and representing one of the most elegant and highly appointed Epiphone thinline models of its time.
This guitar is often considered the Epiphone counterpart to the Gibson ES-355, sharing much of the same high-end construction philosophy, but with its own distinctive styling and—importantly—without the Varitone circuitry and mini-humbuckers found on the Gibson equivalent. The result is a more straightforward, very musical platform with a classic late-’50s/early-’60s hollowbody voice.
This example is exceptionally clean and 100% original, with no modifications or issues to report. It presents at a very high collector level and has clearly been well preserved throughout its life.
Appointments are top-tier throughout, including all gold hardware, gold patent-pending Grover tuners, and a Frequensator tailpiece, all contributing to both its aesthetic appeal and tonal character. The Sheraton also carries more ornate detailing than many ES-355 models, reinforcing its reputation as one of Epiphone’s flagship instruments of the era.
Tonally, these Kalamazoo-built Sheratons are known for a rich, warm, and articulate hollowbody sound, with excellent note separation and a strong acoustic core that translates beautifully when amplified.
Condition is excellent overall, with only a minor point of note: there is a small area of discoloration on the back, which is under the finish and believed to be a factory-related cosmetic irregularity rather than wear or damage. Otherwise, the guitar is extremely clean.
It comes complete with its original hardshell case, also in very good condition.
At 8.5 lbs, it has a solid, substantial feel for a thinline hollowbody, contributing to its sustain and presence.
