Series A guitars are head-scratchers for most people or simply dismissed by the know-it-all (read know nothing) gear snobs on Reddit et al. They would be mistaken.

Series A, like Hondo, Vantage or Quest was one of the early Samick made brands made in Korea alongside Ibanez, Aria and many others after some of the fabled Japanese factories closed or moved their manufacturing there. Along with this came containers full of Japanese guitar parts, necks and bodies to the new Samick factory so there, like all vintage Japanese guitars (even Matsumoku) there are good ones and average ones. This is a good one. If you are familiar with Hondo, this is essentially a MIK Hondo with a Series A badge for the Canadian market.

It has a maple neck and fretboard with stainless frets. The body is solid (maybe Ash or Alder) with an almost mirror black lacquered finish. There a three single coils and a 5 way switch. The tuners are Grover style and hold tune. There is a locking vibrato system and it will dive-bomb and come right back into tune. The neck is trussed and dead straight with low action. It's a lovely neck with properly finished fret ends. It's a real sleeper. It looks to be hardly played aside from a few scratches on the pickguard. It sounds great, plays well and has a quality feel and finish. It's fairly heavy for a strat and has that well made feel that you learn to recognise with years of playing. Looks sharp with it's black on black and chromed hardware. All original.
