Olds Super Bb trumpet 1944- Silver

This is an Olds Super trumpet that is estimated to have been made during the last year or so of WWII. Conventional wisdom for many years was that Olds did not make instruments during the war, but recent research has uncovered that Olds had contracts to produce instruments for the military. Although no Super models have been located that have US Military engraving, this Super and other silver-plated Supers of this era were likely used by the Military.

This particular trumpet has is in somewhat worn condition. Brass is showing though the satin silver plating and the valves also have wear. Compression is passable with heavier valve oil. There is a small crack in the bell rim.  One bottom cap is not original.

This trumpet features “transitional” engraving on the Tone Control Band only found on a handful of Super trumpets. It has aluminum top caps, bottom caps, finger buttons, valve stems and valve guides. Although aluminum might have been in short supply, apparently brass was in even shorter supply during the war.

The third slide stop rod is missing, but the original 1st slide saddle is present.

No case is included.
