The legendary D-55 model, which first appeared on the market as a custom-made model in 1968 and became a regular production model in 1976. In the 1960s, it gained popularity after being used by Tommy Smothers of the Smothers Brothers Show, and for decades it has remained a globally famous and popular model, used by artists such as Waylon Jennings, Billie Joe Armstrong, and David Nail. This particular instrument is a used item from 2001. It features an AA Sitka spruce top, rosewood sides and back, a mahogany and walnut 3-piece neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, mother-of-pearl and abalone V-block fingerboard inlays, a large pickguard, and a lacquer finish. A strap pin has been installed on the neck heel, and the original Grover tuners have been replaced with Gotoh chromatic gold tuners, with slight traces of the replacement visible on the top of the tuners on the back of the headstock.
