For sale is a 1965 Martin 00-21NY in very good overall condition, a wonderful example of Martin’s nylon-inspired folk era instruments from the mid-1960s.

This guitar has one very small crack on the back and has had the tuners replaced. Most 00-21NY guitars I encounter do not have pickguards, but this one does. While it may be aftermarket, it is unquestionably a correct mid-1960s Martin guard, which strongly suggests it may have left the factory that way.

It plays fairly well as it currently sits, with 12th-fret action measuring approximately 0.130 inches on the bass side and 0.100 inches on the treble. The saddle is low, and the guitar will benefit from a neck reset in order to achieve truly low action going forward.

Neck specs are generous and very comfortable, with a 1.86-inch nut width and 0.85 inches of depth at the nut, measuring 2.16 inches wide and 0.96 inches deep at the 7th fret — a fantastic profile for fingerstyle and folk playing.

Tonally, it has the open, airy, lightly built voice these 00-21NY models are known for, with warm fundamentals, quick response, and a sweet top end that makes it perfect for solo playing.
