Overview

The introduction of the iconic violin bass, the first production 500/1 models were made with closely-spaced "black bar" pickups. The original run also had an oval-shaped control panel and no truss rod. In 1960, the 500/1 was updated with Hofner's "Toaster" pickups and the addition of a truss rod.
