About this listing
Rare Casio PG-380 in white, fitted with a genuine Modulus Graphite Blackknife neck — the same distinctive Casio/Modulus configuration famously used onstage by Bob Weir. This is an exceptionally cool example of one of the stranger chapters in late-’80s guitar history. Bob Weir used customized Casio PG-380s fitted with Modulus Blackknife graphite necks, including examples documented and sold through Sotheby’s from his personal collection. This is not represented as a Bob Weir-owned guitar, but it features that same highly unusual PG-380/Blackknife combination. The guitar is in great shape and, importantly, the MIDI system works. Display and onboard controls are functioning, and the guitar is ready to play rather than being sold as an electronics project. Even completely ignoring the MIDI side, it’s a killer-playing guitar. The genuine Modulus Graphite Blackknife neck is really the star here. Extremely stable, fast and unmistakably Modulus, with the beautiful exposed graphite construction extending through the headstock. Combined with the PG-380’s HSS configuration, locking tremolo and wonderfully over-engineered onboard electronics, there really isn’t much else like it.This one is also finished in white, which appears considerably less often than the black PG-380s and looks especially great against the black hardware, electronics and graphite neck.Condition is excellent for its age with honest signs of use. There are some small cosmetic marks and finish wear, including the area near the neck joint clearly shown in the photos. Nothing that affects playability or function. I’ve photographed it honestly and would rather let the pictures speak for themselves than oversell the condition.Whether you’re into Bob Weir and Grateful Dead gear, Modulus guitars, vintage MIDI technology or just bizarre and genuinely great instruments, this is a pretty special one.
