The Gibson Chet Atkins SST was a great alternative to a larger bodied Flat Top but without the feed back that occurs once volume is increased. This is a steel string version as compared to its original nylon strung sibling that came out in 1981. Its a very cool all original example in the classic Polaris White finish that has taken on a nice yellowed patina over the last 35 years. The SST’s featured a simulated soundhole and a stag beetle headstock with script logo until 1993, when the soundhole was removed and the headstock took a more modern look. The SST uses a chambered body with a Balsa center block and a bridge transducer with onboard electronics. The body is mahogany with a spruce top. These are great live performing guitars as they don’t feedback & sounds quite brilliant thru any amp. Its got some play time but no signs of wear. Its all original and overall in near mint condition. Near mint because the volume control knob fell to bits and finding an original was impossible. The guitar has become iconic & unusual in any custom color like this cool example. Chet played this model of course for a number of years as did Brian May, Waylon Jennings, Sting, Robert Smith, Johnny Marr, Mark Knopfler, Jorma Kaukonen and Lindsey Buckingham. Comes complete in its original brown tolex case, which is in good condition, with a couple of dings but no structural damage.
