"Koa Works" is a line of custom-made ukuleles crafted by luthier Rich Godfrey on the Big Island of Hawaii. With a very limited annual production, these instruments are exceptionally rare and seldom seen on the Japanese market.

This particular instrument is a tenor ukulele built in 2013. It features a solid Hawaiian koa body, an ebony fretboard, and a mahogany neck. The cutaway body design not only enhances playability but also boasts an exquisite aesthetic—flowing and graceful, lacking the rigid, bulky feel sometimes found in guitars.

The instrument’s appearance is elevated by the use of top-tier tonewoods. Most striking is the high-quality curly koa, which features a grain pattern so captivating it leaves a lasting impression at first glance; it is clear that every piece of wood used for the body was carefully selected for its exceptional beauty. Furthermore, the use of koa for both the body and the neck lends the instrument a premium, sophisticated quality characteristic of fine ukuleles. The ornamentation is understated—limited to a turtle inlay on the headstock, along with inlays on the fretboard and around the soundhole rosette. This minimalist approach to decoration perfectly complements the unique design and the inherent beauty of the wood, resulting in a remarkably well-balanced instrument.

As for the sound, despite the cutaway body, the instrument possesses a depth that delivers a rich, powerful tone. When strummed, it produces a vibrant, resonant sound where every individual note retains a solid core, ensuring that the tone cuts through clearly without getting lost. Even in the higher registers—where notes can sometimes sound thin or tight—this ukulele rings out with full, robust character. When sustained, the notes linger with a gentle, lingering decay.

Naturally, it also embodies the quintessential Hawaiian ukulele sound: a tone defined by the rich, sweet, and substantial quality unique to koa wood—making it an ideal choice for any musical setting. [Condition]

There are some signs of use, including play wear, scuffs, and small dings on the body and headstock.

The body top and neck remain in good condition with no significant issues.

The string height at the 12th fret is approximately 2.4mm on the 4th-string side and 2mm on the 1st-string side—a comfortable setup.

*At the time of listing, the instrument is strung with fluorocarbon "KIWAYA×WORTH" KBM strings.

[Included Accessories]

Hard case, 6-month pre-owned warranty.

This is a rare, luthier-crafted instrument—don't miss this opportunity!
