About this listing
The name Southern Jumbo immediately brings to mind the famous Slope Shoulder body shape, but Gibson hasn't always made this guitar in this form!In fact, along with the Dove, the Hummingbird, and the Country Western, the SJ or Southern Jumbo model underwent a significant change in appearance in 1963 when Gibson replaced the slope shoulder design with a square shoulder design. It is undeniable that these are great-sounding instruments with a lot of character. Comparable to a Martin D18, but with that typical mellow-sounding Gibson magic. They are known as perfect studio instruments that lend themselves perfectly to the finest recordings. This 1969 example is a very well-preserved specimen and is free of cracks. The original sunburst finish shines beautifully and displays the craquelé that we know well from vintage Gibsons. Furthermore, the guitar naturally displays the expected signs of playing and use befitting an instrument of this age. On the inside of the soundbox, it is visible that the bridge plate has been repaired, ensuring the strings are once again optimally anchored under the bridge. The tuning machines have been replaced, and the original ones are included in the case. Furthermore, an imprint of a strap or cloth is noticeable on the back of the body; the lacquer has raised a bit higher here than the rest of the finish, but feels smooth to the touch. The guitar still has its original bridge and pickguard, and is without a doubt a special guitar to add to your collection! This instrument has been carefully inspected for originality, condition and playability, then set up to our Gold Standard by a luthier. We make sure it arrives in your hands exactly as it should: sounding its best, playing effortlessly and ready to be enjoyed from the very first note.photos of: Actual Instrument
