Vintage Ampex 242 dynamic microphone made in Japan as an accessory mic for Ampex portable cassette recorders. Designed for basic voice capture and field use, not studio recording. Would work great as an FX mic.
Simple dynamic capsule with a mid-forward, narrow bandwidth sound and limited low-end extension. Typical of consumer-grade 1960s–70s portable recording systems.
Now used mainly for lo-fi recording, sampling, tape experiments, and vintage gear collections.
Converted/usable condition with pro XLR mod.
