One of the most important elements of his overwhelming sound was the MXR Distortion+: Randy harnessed its energy to push his high-gain amp, achieving a wealth of harmonics and creating a sonic signature that would leave an indelible mark on music history.

MXR celebrates his monumental legacy with this reissue of the MXR Distortion+. For the first time in 42 years, the Rhoads family unveiled Randy's pedalboard to the MXR design team at the family's music school in Los Angeles, the Musonia School of Music. History was made there: the MXR team carefully opened the pedalboard, examining and documenting every detail of this authentic rock relic. The engineers meticulously recreated the specifications of Randy's vintage Distortion+, with the direct involvement of his sister, Kathy Rhoads, creating this signature model capable of producing the same distorted tones heard on Randy's most beloved songs. Inspired by a supersonic plane he rode on a tour with Ozzy Osbourne, Randy designed a Flying V-style guitar, complete with a white finish and decorative line.
