Its innovative design and unique sound were loved by many great players, from Rory Gallagher overseas to Takuro Yoshida, Kenji Endo, Chuei Yoshikawa, and Iruka in Japan. This 1979 example comes from the golden age of Japanese folk music. Nearly half a century of aging has given the body a rich amber tone, and weather checking throughout adds genuine vintage character. Fitted with German Schaller tuners typical of the era; the nut and saddle are original Micarta. The pickguard and bridge pins have been replaced, but most major parts remain original. Comes with the coveted Martin blue case.Compared to the D-28, the D-35 is often described as having a more restrained low end and a tighter overall sound, and this guitar shows that character clearly. Its highlights are a well-defined note outline and excellent chord separation: fingerpicked lightly, it gives the glossy, beautiful tone only a Martin can; strummed hard for vocal accompaniment, it stays powerful without getting muddy or uneven. A superb sound for backing a singer while keeping its own presence.[SPEC]TOP: Sitka SpruceBACK/SIDES: Indian Rosewood 3PFINGERBOARD/BRIDGE: EbonyNECK: MahoganyNUT WIDTH: 43mmSCALE: 646mmCASE: 1970s Martin Blue Case[Repairs / Replaced Parts / Cosmetic Condition]*Used/vintage item; information is limited to what we could find in our inspection.Signs that the bridge has been reglued in the past; the bridge plate has been reinforced with an additional plate; the pickguard has been replaced; slight crack on the lower right side of the pickguard, but bracing sits directly beneath the crack, so there is no structural issue.[Playing Condition]Action at the 12th fret: 3.2mm low E side, 2.5mm high E side.
