About this listing
The Gibson 1960 Hummingbird HCS Fixed Bridge is a faithful replica of the Hummingbird that was first produced in the 1960s. In addition to the characteristic Hummingbird pickguard, it is made of the same materials that were used at the time. The instrument owes its powerful sound to the all solid construction, letting it develop quickly and completely thanks to the thermally treated top wood and wafer-thin hand-rubbed finish. All this creates the impression that this guitar is indeed a relic from days gone by. It comes with a sturdy case, a certificate of authenticity and a Gibson Accessory Kit.A carefully selected and specially treated top woodIn order to produce a bright and rich sound, the manufacturer uses a fine-grained Sitka spruce wood for the construction of the top, which first undergoes a thermal treatment, so that the sound is produced quickly and sustainably, just like an instrument that has been played for decades. This effect is further enhanced by the flat scalloped X-bracing, allowing the top wood to vibrate freely. The wafer-thin nitro lacquer with a striking Heritage Cherry Sunburst finish adds to this effect. Surrounded by a cream-coloured multi-ply binding, the color gradient of the top blends smoothly into the finish of the back and sides, perfectly matching the other components of the instrument. The heart of this cult model from the Gibson acoustic guitar family is the spacious pickguard, which is decorated with a hummingbird and elaborate floral ornaments, giving the guitar its name.Warm basses and pronounced midrange frequenciesPerfectly matched to the top wood, the manufacturer uses high-quality mahogany wood for the back and sides, which not only gives the overall sound a warm note, but also enriches the bass and mid-range frequencies with a fundamental saturation that makes the instrument perfect for vocal accompaniment and rhythmic strumming. The thin finish allows the back to vibrate more freely, producing a quick response even with light hits. The back and sides are framed by a multi-layered binding, which provides a tasteful contrast to the reddish color of the finely grained wood. Furthermore you can see from the even grain of the material that the manufacturer uses only the finest woods for their high-quality Custom Shop instruments to create the perfect sound experience for which their guitars are famous all over the world.A short scale length and excellent playabilityIn order to guarantee optimum fingering, the manufacturer has chosen a mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard for the 1960 Hummingbird. In combination with the 43.81 mm wide nut and the shortened scale length of 628.65 mm, the frets can be easily reached up to the highest frets decorated with mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. A bone nut and a matching saddle, which is embedded in the fixed rosewood bridge, ensure a clean intonation. The precise workmanship of the saddle demonstrates the craftsmanship of the Gibson Custom Shop. Golden Gotoh Keystone tuners are embedded in the characteristic headstock, allowing for easy tuning of the 6 steel strings and adding a noble touch to the overall picture. The guitar comes with a sturdy wooden case with yellow interior, a certificate of authenticity with model number and a Gibson Accessory Kit.The Gibson 1960 Hummingbird HCS Fixed Bridge at a glance:Custom Shop acoustic guitar in Slope Shoulder designAll solid construction with thin nitro finishThermally treated Sitka spruce top with a Hummingbird pickguardMahogany body with cream-colored multi-ply bindings43.81 mm wide bone nut and fixed bone saddleMahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard and MOP parallelogram inlaysShortened scale length of 628.65 mm20 fretsGolden Gotoh Keystone tunersIncluding case, certificate and Gibson Accessory Kit
