About this listing
Have you always wanted a vintage Fender Bassman but could never afford the $6000-15,000 price tag? Aren't you tired of the look and sound of your reissue or homebuild kit? Have you always wanted to hear that famous sag and growl that these models are known for? Here is a chance to own a real vintage Fender Bassman at a fraction of the price. What can we say about this one except that it has a lot of mojo! We are clearing out our shop and found a bunch of treasures that we forgot we had. This is a Fender Bassman with the coveted dual rectifier design (5E3). This is the beginning of the Bassman line when they switched over to the 9-pin 12ax7 instead of the octal tubes of the wide panel and TV panel designs. This was a dual rectifier design like the Tweed Twin (5E3 and 5E3-A), where you can use both rectifier tubes, or pull one out for more sag at lower volumes. Pulling out one rectifier tube, drops the plate voltage and reduces current headroom, allowing the amplifier to break up earlier at lower volumes and feel "looser" or more compressed. The cabinet is original, but the outside of it was made to look like the brown tolex era. Grill cloth and baffle and handle are not original. Two of the mounting holes on the cabinet were damaged and will need attention. The logo is original and reads very nicely. The transformers are not original. The chassis is stamped BM00366, which dates it to a Summer of 1955. As you can see, this amp will need some love to get it up and running, but it certainly will be a great project for those looking for a real Bassman.
