This is a 1948 Los Angeles Olds Super Bb trumpet. It is from an excellent era of Olds production. It is being sold for the family of the original owner.  The trumpet appears to have been re-lacquered in the distant past.  The work appears to have been well done.  Engraving is still sharp but there is a bit of lacquer wear on the tone control band.

This trumpet  has all original parts (with the exception of the third slide push rod, which is a replacement)  and matching serial numbers on the piston spring barrels. This trumpet is clean and straight with no signs of any trauma or past repair.

There is an area of missing lacquer on the mouthpiece receiver and also on the leadpipe that have a circular appearance, but there is no pinkish color that would suggest red rot and the pipe is clean and clear on the inside.  

The mouthpiece receiver has a very slight downward angle.  

There is a small area of plating loss at the very bottom of two of the valve pistons, but compression is very good and the valves operate smoothly with no hanging.

This is a Super from the early post-war era, which has these distinctive features:

1) It has the trombone lever water key on the third valve slide which was discontinued a few years after this horn was made

2) It has the flat style bracing which was also discontinued a few years later.

This trumpet comes with a non-original case and the original Olds 3 mouthpiece.

This trumpet was purchased new in Beaumont, Texas for the original owner in 1948.  She switched to French Horn while at North Texas State Teacher's College and then went on to a career as a Band Director in a small West Texas town.  Nothing is known about when the trumpet was relacquered, but aside from a basic cleaning, this trumpet needed nothing to be put back in playing condition after being idle for many years.
