About this listing
This is a very rare early-production Roland RE-201 Space Echo, made in Japan in 1974.Demo video added. The tape echo, spring reverb, and mode selector operation can be checked in the video. The RE-201 is one of the most iconic tape echo units ever made, loved for its warm tape delay, three-head echo combinations, built-in spring reverb, and beautifully organic movement. From subtle slapback to deep dub-style repeats, it has a musical character that modern digital units still try to capture. This unit is especially collectible because its serial number begins with 27, which indicates October 1974 production based on the commonly used Roland serial number dating chart. Since the RE-201 was introduced by Roland in 1974, this appears to be a very early first-year example from the beginning of Space Echo history.According to the professional technician who serviced it, the internal board structure is very close to the earlier RE-200 design, which further supports its status as an extremely early and uncommon example.Unlike many vintage Space Echo units sold only as “working / AS IS,” this one has been professionally overhauled and maintained by a repair shop, so it is ready for serious long-term use. It is not just a display piece—it has been properly serviced for players, studios, and collectors who want a reliable vintage machine. This is a Japanese 100V unit, but I will include a step-down transformer free of charge so it can be safely used in 120V areas such as the United States and 220–240V areas such as Europe. I can also include an outlet plug adapter if needed, so international buyers can use it with confidence.I will also include an English maintenance manual that explains basic care and maintenance for using a tape echo machine. There are no photos of the manual at the moment, but it will be included so the next owner can better understand how to maintain the unit over time.A rare first-year RE-201 with professional servicing,early-production character, and practical voltage support for international use.Accessories English maintenance manual Step-down transformer included free of charge Outlet plug adapter included if needed Carefully packed for international shipping Power Notice: This is a Japanese 100V unit.
