About this listing
KLON CENTAUR Professional Overdrive Gold Short Tail -1999- The KLON CENTAUR, renowned as the "King of Pedals." Originally released in 1994 with a list price of $239, the KLON CENTAUR was developed by Bill Finnegan. Born from his pursuit of the exact sound he envisioned, the CENTAUR quickly became a popular pedal. Even back then, the pedal was built entirely by hand using parts specifically crafted for the CENTAUR?including the chassis, pots, back panel, and knobs?so one can imagine just how costly it was to produce. It is said that nearly 8,000 units of the KLON CENTAUR were manufactured before production ceased. Overseas, it has been used by numerous guitarists such as John Mayer, Jeff Beck, Joe Perry, Derek Trucks, and Noel Gallagher, while in Japan, it has been favored by Takahiro Matsumoto, Char, Hisako Tabuchi, and many others. It remains a beloved pedal to this day, and various clone pedals have been produced by other manufacturers. This unit bears the serial number g2151h and is from the so-called gShort Tailh era, featuring a short-tailed centaur painted on the chassis. It uses two potentiometers with the date code g450-WS7577A 9924h and one with g450-WW7634A 9924,h indicating it was manufactured in 1999. The sound produces a well-rounded output with expanded midrange simply by switching it on; when turned on, the lower-midrange is boosted, yielding a drive sound with exquisite texture reminiscent of a tube amplifier. Many guitarists use the Centaurfs distinctive sound as a spice or as a clean boost, making a wide variety of sound shaping possible. Although it shows some signs of wear, it comes with the original box and manual, making it a fine specimen suitable as a collectorfs item.
