This listing is for a Pearl SC-40, a ultra rare programmable percussion synthesizer from the 1980s. A hidden gem of hybrid drum synthesis, the SC-40 combines 12-bit digital waveforms with analog filtering and envelopes, offering punchy and gritty sounds that sit somewhere between lo-fi sampling and analog percussion synthesis.

Very important, the unit has the original factory presets, I could load them :)

Features:

• 4-voice polyphony, assignable to 8 trigger inputs (1/4” jacks)
• MIDI In/Out/Thru
• 32 digital waveforms processed through analog filters and VCAs
• 8 individual outputs + stereo mix out + headphone out
• 256 user-programmable pads across 32 kits, plus 256 factory presets
• Cassette interface for patch backup
• Rugged 19” rack format (3U), made in Japan by Pearl Musical Instruments

Condition:

• Fully functional and tested
• Cosmetically in good condition with some wear on the side panels (see detailed photos)
• ⚠️ Please note: the original rack ears are missing, so the unit is currently freestanding (see side panel photos)

Included:

• Pearl SC-40 main unit
• Power cord (220V model – EU plug)

This is a fantastic unit for anyone exploring vintage drum synthesis or building a modular/performance drum setup. It responds well to trigger inputs and MIDI and has a unique sonic signature that’s hard to replicate.
